Our Vision Statement

At Springfield Area Music Industry (SAMI), our ambition is to put Springfield on the map for its music scene. To that end, we want to identify avenues and opportunities for growth and exploit those; we want to identify systemic failures and explore means of correcting them, and establish a pool of individuals willing to work to make that happen. SAMI is not only for musicians, but sound engineers, techs, and even venues and club owners; everyone who wants to help us bolster the Springfield music scene is welcome. Our purpose is to come together as a community, support our local music industry, and put as MUCH music out there as possible.

Ever wanted to be part of the music scene? Here's a great opportunity to do just that!So I'd love to find someone who wants to grow into an LD (lighting director/designer) position with me. If you love live music/events, and are interested in learning a trade that'll keep you working in live music (or any other aspect of the entertainment industry really...) then let me know!

This would be a paid position, so you'd be getting paid to learn a badass trade! But, the pay is gig dependant. So I can't promise a regular check or regular schedule. You'd work when I work at first. Some months will be stacked, other months may be sparce while we recover from covid cancelations etc... But I will say this, I'm ambitious and hungry af. In the space of 1 year I've built something pretty cool. And in my ambition and hunger I've decided to push my production value further! That's where you would come in!

This position requires zero experience, but relevant traits would be a good eye for aesthetics, relative tech savvy, and the ability and willingness to do some heavy lifting. If your ambition matches mine then you could be running and growing our lighting program in little to no time. At which point your value is only limited by your ambition.

No creepers, no drunks, no junkies. Must be able to clean up halfway decent for higher end private events. Must be good with heights. Won't always be up high, but if /when we need to get skyward I need you to be able to be reasonably functional. It's also not all live events, we dabble in installation and system design throughout the week, so it really is an opportunity to become a well rounded system designer.

I've been pretty informal about bringing on folks in the past, but this time I'm gonna try and be a tiny bit more formal. If you're interested; email a cover letter to matt@dancingsoundman.com
Remember no experience necessary, so I won't require a resume. But, In your cover letter I'd like to know why you think you'd be a good fit, and what you hope to gain from the experience. Hope to hear from you soon!
